CWIF 2019
Last weekend saw the return of the annual Climbing Works International Festival, held at the Climbing Works in Sheffield. With big stars coming in from across the globe it was sure to be a great competition! This year, making it’s first appearance was the Beta Bar, fuelled with an Axis Round Edges beer, labelled by Magic Rock Brewing.
The Beta Setting department were head hold sponsors with Axis Round Edges, WATAAAH, Lapis and Bleaustone. These holds coupled with some great setting led to an interesting qualifying round and a gripping final.
In the qualification round Tenaya UK made up of Ben Norman, Holly Rees, Craig Bailey and Rhoslyn Frugtniet, put on a good show coming 5th in the team rankings and Rhos making it through to semi-finals!
Onto the finals and a WATAAAH slab climb offered some dual-tex goodness, with only Nathan Phillips topping the problem. The wooden Axis volumes made their first UK showing allowing for dynamical, but technical movements. The Axis fiberglass macros showed the need for some serious open-handed strength.
Overall another great competition from The Works team, the setters and the climbers.
